Product Description

A most significant find! This is the one that started it all! The most unique find to date!

2008 marks the 30th Anniversary of the "Superman Celebration" in Metropolis Illinois, "Home of Superman"!!! And look what we've uncovered... Forty-four fabulous jumbo pages of the Superman/Metropolis connection and all its splendor!

A few years ago a few of these rare edition Metropolis Planet Newspapers in "unread and mint" condition were found in dark storage in the basement of the "Metropolis Planet" building. This real newspaper was the official kick-off of what has evolved into a world famous phenomenon known to so many fans and collectors around the world as the annual "Superman Celebration" in Metropolis Illinois, "Home of Superman". This newspaper really touts it all! From a few Full size pull-out posters to Neal Adams Illustrations and concepts on the Superman theme park as well as dozens of articles and artwork on Superman, George Reeves, Rev. Chaz Chandler who was the very first "Superman of Metropolis", "The Amazing World of Superman" museum which only lasted a year, many, many write-ups on Superman and the exhibition center. This precious newspaper was also the premiere edition of the "Metropolis Planet" name rather then the "Metropolis weekly". It couldn't very well be called the "Daily Planet" as it was and still IS a weekly paper not a Daily paper.

This Souvenir Edition Newspaper which is dated June 28, 1973 has two giant sections in it and each and every page is covered in Superman lore and Superman history relating to the Superman connection with Metropolis Illinois. The truly amazing thing about this newspaper is the remarkable condition with only the slightest bit of browning around the outside edges which actually ads to its unique character... again... very slight aging for this wonderful piece of Superman history. You'll never find a copy in better condition. In fact, we have never even seen a copy in ANY condition for sale on ebay or any other online auction site. We are the first to have this newspaper available on the internet. A few years ago, a well aged copy sold in New York for over $275.00 according to several top collectors.

Several famous Superman artists at the time contributed artwork to this monumental first edition including Carmine Infantino, Neal Adams and Curt Swan just to name a few. Even Kirk Alyn (motion picture's first Superman), Phyllis Coates (TV's first Lois Lane) and Jack Larson (TV's first Jimmy Olsen) are featured in this paper.

What an exciting treasure for any collector and fan of Superman and rare newspaper collectors.
